You are proving to me why it is so important to ask questions. I have a very defined MMDH goals, and the feedback you are sending my way each week gives me more and more confidence that I’m heading in the right direction with all I want to offer you through this community.
You know, goals like…
I’ve been told a few times in your replies that I make personality filled home design look easy. My number one goal of these letters is to get YOUR friends and family saying the same thing about YOU.
You can do A LOT with what you have!
If you took a minute to download my Top 20 List last week, you saw that the first few items were pretty straight forward:
#1 Purge through the excess.
#2 Organize your drawers.
#3 Give every little thing a place.
…or were they?
I surprisingly received a few comments on these items, and I LOVE that even these few more straightforward items can be a challenge for you to get through. I love this, because again, I know I can help!!
For example, I was determined to do a front flip on our trampoline this summer. This is something I have never done in my life, but as soon as I stopped talking myself out of it, I just did it!
Purging through the excess and giving everything remaining a place is just like that.
You may have an overwhelming amount of items to purge through and organize, or you may be thinking, “Melissa, this is no sweat, I am very literally starting from scratch over here.”
Either way, our goal with these first few items on the Top 20 House to Home List is to get you to a base point of items you LOVE surrounding you and organized in a very straightforward way that gives you a sense of peace.
Often times, it is about letting go of the comfortable, to accommodate fresh surroundings that fully speak YOU! This is a major first step, that cannot be taken lightly.
If you are like me and have been on this journey of “home styling” for a while now, you know that it is not a one-time deal. It is a process. A process that we must all approach with an open mind and heart.
This post is part of our weekly MMDH email series. Each week I covered home decorating and furnishing tips to make your house feel like a home, one room at a time! (Make sure you’re subscribed to my emails!)
I hope you are ready to take your home to the next level of organization! It is truly life changing, and I can’t wait to see you put these skills into action, and reap the benefits!
As a refresher, here are the 5 steps:
✅Truly sentimental items = keep & find a great place to display them, frame them, or actually use them ( I have A LOT of these… which we will cover as we get into starting collections)
✅ ANYTHING you question ever needing or really loving = it is time to send it on to someone who can really love it. There are women’s shelters and community thrift stores near you that have lists of all they will take.
✅ Items that no longer OR never held sentimental value, and do not bring you Marie Kondo style joy = donate or hand down to someone who will appreciate them. Don’t be afraid to get rid of what doesn’t serve you!
✅ Items that you can’t find a purposeful “place” for = donate or hand down.
✅ Items that don’t fit, physically OR aesthetically, in your home goals = donate or hand down.
✅ Go through this process quarterly! It is INCREDIBLE how things have the ability to accumulate in a short period of time. This step makes all of the work actually worth it, so don’t skip it!
You deserve a home that speaks YOU!
