I’m making a conscious effort of being more present in 2021. I don’t know if that comes naturally to anyone these days. Our weeks fly by and it’s like we don’t even know what happened by Friday. So here goes my trip down this week’s memory lane… 

LOCAL SPECIFICATIONS

I took over the Glen Ellyn Mom’s Village Instagram feed for a day, and shared some of my go-to design spots in Glen Ellyn, IL. There is something about finding vendors super close to home, where you know a quick familiar visit will transform the end result of any project.

Above is a a glimpse into my quick styling and spec haul from the day. I featured local shops where I source some of my favorite pieces and specifications within a few miles of MMDH HQ.

PROGRESS REVIEW

I also visited one of the gut renovation projects I am collaborating with the homeowners on. This is a project for a recently retired couple who was ready to move closer to their kids and grandkids. They looked for solid bones in a house, and we are making them a bit more solid, as well as refreshed with an updated and timeless vibe that they will make them feel right at spa-like home.

This job site passed final rough-in inspections this week and is due to get its insulation and drywall next week. One of my favorite turning points of a project is the drywall phase. Everything starts to become clear for everyone, and it means you are closing in on the home stretch of your project, when all of the interior specs start to arrive!

FIREPLACE CONSULTATION

This fireplace may not be wowing you yet, although plans are underway to bring it to life. I brainstormed fireplace update solutions with our fireplace vendor/guru, because every designer needs other home experts in their lives everyday!

Speaking of bringing in the experts, my House to Home 101 (H2H) private facebook group membership it just that. A place for you to have ongoing Q&A with me and the project experts that I have on speed dial when questions come up on site. Your virtual speed dial experts, for all of your home project conundrums.

In H2H, I have brought in my go-to residential experts to share their knowledge on topics of interest for you (i.e.: architecture, construction, landscape, custom framing, real estate, entertaining, etc.). A NEW HOTSPOT DISCOVERED

Part of my fun this week included a long overdue stop into Good Roots in downtown Glen Ellyn. My new go-to for all the plants, planters, and low maintenance indoor plant guidance I will ever need! I am embarrassed to say I might be the last mom in the greater Chicagoland area to visit these ladies in this gloriously curated space they’ve created… a whole slew of goodness over there.

WHIRLWIND

July 2021 will mark 4 years since leaving the corporate world to start MMDH. This year is due to mark some major milestones. I am working on SO much behind the scenes to build this dream business into something bigger, and I cannot wait to share it all with you.

This week, I completed the first section of my first homeowner’s design & construction workbook that will begin to launch next month! I managed a total of 9 1:1 client projects and hosted my standing House to Home 101 office hours.

I’m making things happen, and recapping my week like this brings it all to light. I highly recommend a weekly regroup for everyone pushing ahead in these wild times! Drop a comment about what you’re proud of completing this past week.
