Is it that you are diving into a construction project without a full team to bounce your ideas and questions off of?
Maybe you are unsure of where to begin?
FINDING AN EXPERT DESIGN TEAM IS KEY
There’s lots to think about when ramping up your surroundings, Friends! That’s why there are experts! They are out there, running full fledges businesses to help you help yourself!
There are endless details and hours of processing that get poured into any scale home project. When you take on a project, you have a choice to go at it alone or hire a team.
There are plenty of homeowners who are up for putting the hours into the learning curve of managing home projects on their own, but when you start to feel in over your head, it is time to reach out to people who have been at this for a while.
Let’s talk thru how to make this happen…
START TO IDENTIFY YOUR TEAM
Determine who you need on board to make your project less stressful for you. When I say “team” I am referring to any expert in the home industry. This may be a contractor for a large scale project or a sales representative at a home furnishings store.
Ask your neighbors and friends who they have used and loved working with for similar scope projects. Keep in mind that your team is made up of people who have the ability to get you the most value possible out of your project. Choose them like you choose your most trusted friends.
ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS
Don’t be afraid to ask too many questions.
Understand the tasks your potential teammates will complete and are skilled at, within their proposal. Get to know your potential teammates via social media, etc. Ask for referrals. Ask for ballpark numbers, so you know if you are even close to being on track or maxing out your budget before you hire a team.
RESPECT THEIR EXPERTISE
The design process is not for the weary, no matter what the scale or scope of the project. I’m still learning something new on EVERY SINGLE PROJECT… almost 20 years in! You have to trust the fact that anyone with even a few more years of experience in their field than you do, can offer your project a lot of knowledge and guidance.
When it comes to construction projects or more involved furnishing installs, I live for the process of collaborating with sub contractors. Talking through design intent vs. ideal install methods. You HAVE TO trust your team AND your design gut for these conversations, and the project will ALWAYS turn out even better than they were on paper.
Residential interior design can so easily get a bad wrap for unapproachable vibes. One of my more major goals in life is to bring thoughtful interiors to as many design-enthusiast homeowners as possible, even to those who feel like the design professional scene is not “them”.
The more you know about who to partner with and what to invest in for your home projects, the better base you have to make it a successful one.
Know that a professional interior designer is ALWAYS for you if you are investing in your home. Use us! We are here to help ease the process.
