The long awaited paint process has begun on our refresh project. I can’t tell you how many people asked me how the paint project is turning out, weeks before a paint can was cracked open.
I started planning an interior paint overhaul at the beginning of the year. I’ve talked about my pink kitchen cabinet dream and my cabana-striped stair dream over and over—if you’re curious, I’ve shared all the details right over here. They say that the more you talk about your dreams, the closer they get to becoming reality. Manifestation at its finest. As I write this at 10:58 p.m., lying in bed, I can’t actually believe I’m already mid-paint week!
This week is all about laying down the base paint. We moved into this house 14 years ago and painted every square inch of the interiors. The before, before can be seen here. We renovated a good portion of the first floor 8 years ago. Then I quit my 9-5 corporate interior design career 7 years ago. We went on a fairly significant home spending hiatus as I started MMDH. It was time for a base paint refresh before the real fun begins!
I remember when I started this business. I quickly realized that my clients were all entering year 10 to 12 of their design hiatus. Either that’s what it took to have enough energy to get back into home design, OR that’s when we all start to need a change of scenery. Likely a little of A and a little of B.
After months of considering what we were ready to dive into around here, we got serious about this project about 6 weeks ago. We got a quote and secured a time slot with our painter.
I kicked off by taping paint samples to the walls, then revisited my personal Pinterest boards for fresh inspiration. My physical mood board got a boost too, replenished with new finds.
By day two of paint week, I found myself tweaking the locations and colors, wondering if my selections were bold enough to justify the investment. The contrast between the colors had me second-guessing whether I had truly taken things to the next level.
I revisited my inspiration, getting reassurance each time that I wasn’t going too bold, but hopefully just bold enough to practice what I preach.
It has been fun, entertaining, stressful, eye-opening, and validating all at once. It’s more and more clear that I’m meant to go through this process with other people, maybe not so much by myself 😅
I like being the client for a minute to see what all the feels are when you’re doing this for yourself. I know it is all SO worth it in the end, and I’m legitimately seeing that by the day. The trust it takes to just go for it and see the fruits of your vision come to life. So good. Love that you’re here for it too.
And just like that, we’re deep in the process—bold colors are going up, doubts are creeping in, and the vision is coming to life with every brushstroke. This paint refresh has been a rollercoaster of decisions and second guesses, but every moment has been worth it. I’m excited to share this journey with you and can’t wait to reveal the final look. Stay tuned for more updates as we bring bold dreams to life, one wall at a time.
